THE CHALLENGE

We were engaged to review the systems and operations of a large, successful apparel importer which sold to big box stores, major department stores and discount chains. Company operations were disorganized, causing stress and constant "fire fighting." The challenge was to set up disciplines in buying and sourcing, organizing time lines, managing customer expectations and delivering a quality product. This needed to be done with a workforce that was skilled, but under considerable pressure and somewhat resistant to change.

THE SOLUTION

We analyzed each department, evaluated the personnel, and made recommendationson appropriate organizational and procedural changes that would manage the process AND the personalities. Management acknowledged the suggestions, but was hesitant to change. Cautiously, they implemented one change at a time, resulting in total implementation over five years. Since total implementation, the company shows improving margins, closer inventory control, better cash flow, and improved management of product cost, quality and delivery, leading to better customer satisfaction AND a less stressful work environment. According to the client, "We should have listened to you from the beginning."
