As Seen in Philadelphia Business Journal
A: Despite the somewhat cryptic title, forensic accountants have a number of special skills and can be of assistance to business owners and professionals in many ways, including in the normal course of an entity’s operations or in litigation. As forensic accountants, we are often engaged to give opinions about the veracity of financial statements and/or the quality of procedures performed by audit firms. We also are asked, however, and very often, to help locate and quantify missing funds, especially when such funds have been misappropriated from small family businesses, as well as to quantify damages where contracts or business relationships have been fractured. Forensic accountants wear many hats, depending on the circumstances.
