New York, NY 10/2/2020 - Friedman LLP, a top-40 accounting and advisory firm, today announced several new programs as part of its ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion (DI), both within the firm and in the communities in which it works.
Friedman’s DI initiatives rest on the following six pillars:
- Learning and Development
- Client Collaborations
- International/Domestic Alliances
As part of firm’s “community” pillar, Friedman is proud to announce a recent donation to the Council of Urban Professionals (CUP). This donation will be used in support of CUP’s mission of inspiring, elevating and empowering the next generation of diverse business and civic leaders. Now in its thirteenth year, CUP supports the career progression of professional women and people of color in New York and Los Angeles through career-building programs and networking events.
Friedman’s donation is designated to support CUP’s Fellows Program—a leadership development experience for early-to-mid career professionals of color across sectors who are committed to supporting their communities through impactful contributions to nonprofit and public organizations.
“Our decision to support CUP through our recent donation is part of a larger movement toward promoting equity across communities,” said Harriet Greenberg, co-managing partner. “It is my hope that other firms continue to pass this mantle of generosity forward and support powerful groups like CUP.”
Executive Director, Melissa Fenton stated, "We are deeply grateful for this partnership and believe in Friedman LLP for their true investment in diversity and our mission. This grant will impact so many diverse leaders in our community."
In addition to the CUP donation, the following initiatives demonstrate other ways that the firm is continuing to expand its commitment to DI:
- Annual DI trainings, with this year’s focus on Unconscious Bias
- A 21-Day Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge in collaboration with the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) to educate employees about race-related challenges and achievements in society at large
- Collaboration with college career advisors at various schools on events geared toward increasing exposure to job opportunities for diverse students
“Diversity of thought in the workplace is one of the most valuable assets of any organization,” said Fred Berk, co-managing partner. “One of the things that makes Friedman so special is our active dedication to hiring people from all backgrounds and providing valuable tools to aid in their professional success.”
