Kevin Hyams, partner in charge of Friedman LLP’s Governance, Risk and Compliance Service practice, was recently featured in an exclusive interview with The Wall Street Journal on the latest edition of the Corruption Perceptions Index and the effect on companies.
This edition of the index is unlikely to have a dramatic effect on how companies conduct themselves with respect to anti-bribery laws, such as the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, but Kevin Hyams says the gauge remains a key resource for conducting risk assessments.
“Almost every regulator now requires a risk-based compliance assessment,” said Mr. Hyams. “For any organization that is multinational, the starting point for this exercise is looking at the latest CPI index for the countries it is doing business in.”
