Neil Ehrenkrantz is a partner emeritus with Friedman LLP and has worked in public accounting for more than 45 years. He works with public and privately held companies in a broad range of industries, including investment companies, investment funds, employee benefit plans, real estate, manufacturing, wholesale and retail distribution, and professional companies and practices. Neil is a member of the firm's SEC Services Group, Real Estate Services Group and Tax Practice Group.


As part of the SEC Services Group, Neil performs audits of businesses, assists businesses with the updating of rules and regulations of the Securities and Exchange Commission, and performs services relating to internal control review and auditor attestation. He has written for Friedman's SEC Impact newsletter. He has also assisted in the development of private offering memorandums.

As part of the Real Estate Services Group, Neil performs audits of investment companies, including multi-family housing, retail and commercial businesses and assists Friedman's governance team members, addressing issues relating to the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act as it relates to real estate investment companies.

In addition, Neil has been associated with forensic and litigation support matters, including working with bankruptcies and workouts, formulating and reviewing plans for reorganization, providing preference and fraudulent transfer analyses and serving as an expert witness.

Neil has been a member of peer review teams under the practice monitoring program sponsored by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is the past Chairperson for the NYSSCPA SEC Committee.  In addition, he has conducted accounting and tax seminars and has been interviewed for articles in the CFO Magazine, Trusted Professional and Compliance Weekly relating to SEC and PCAOB topics, internal controls and other accounting and auditing matters.

His expertise includes:

  • Planning, supervising, and reviewing audit engagements
  • Managing, Servicing and advising companies relating to SSAE reports. Includes advising on controls relevant to key processes or functions to service organizations in various industries

  • Assisting closely held businesses with the budgeting process, cash flow analyses and inventory management
  • Tax planning for closely held businesses and their related stockholders and families
  • Overseeing audits involving federal and state and local income taxes, state sales and use taxes and independent contractor vs. employee payroll issues
