Jay Goldstein is a partner emeritus at Friedman LLP and the former co-leader of the firm's Real Estate Practice.  Jay maintains client relationships in such diverse industries as commercial and residential real estate, real estate development, construction contractors, hospitality and service organizations.


In addition, Jay has been retained for acquisition due diligence and litigation support services on numerous occasions. He has served as an arbitrator and mediator with respect to business disputes and has been retained as an expert witness.

His expertise includes:

  • Representing entities and individuals with multinational interests
  • Specializing in the tax aspects of partnerships and passive loss regulations, including partnership profit and loss allocations and distributions
  • Providing litigation support for various disputes including acting as an arbitrator as well as an expert witness
  • Participating in discovery and calculating damages relating to losses from various investments
  • Reviewing strategies and alternatives for loan restructuring proposals
  • Analyzing the tax ramifications relating to debt restructuring or transferring of distressed real estate, foreclosure, deed in lieu, and bankruptcy from a borrower and lender perspective
